Laboratory
Description: The laboratory will make you practiced in anatomical
examination and will provide you with hands-on experience with topics introduced
in the lectures and the textbook. You will explore most of the 11 major organ
systems and structures using human models, fixed tissue specimens, and dissection
of whole preserved animals or organs. By providing you with an opportunity
to work with your hands, I hope that you will gain insight and appreciation
for the fundamental principles and methods of anatomical study.
Laboratory Attendance Policy:
Laboratory attendance is mandatory! You are allowed no more than 2
absences from lab (with official excuse). Laboratory attendance will be recorded.
Any further absences can result in your being dismissed from lab. Unexcused
absences are not acceptable. There is no way to make-up missed labs. Any absence
from lab robs you of valuable experiences and interaction with your classmates,
deprives you of chances to ask me questions, and impedes your mastery of material
that will be included on laboratory practicals. Attendance and participation
is included as part of your laboratory grade; however, your performance on
the laboratory practicals comprises the bulk of your laboratory grade.

Rules
and Regulations of the Laboratory: Come to lab, pay attention,
and keep up with the reading and your notes, and study appropriately for each
practical. This is your chance to explore, hands-on, what you have learned
in lecture and in your reading. Active participation and exploration is the
best way to retain concepts so please make the most of your laboratory time.
If you are caught cheating on any practical [have cheat-sheets, look at another
students form, use electronic devices (i.e. cell phones, calculators with
memory storage, or personal organizers) or other methods for cheating] it
will result in an automatic zero for that practical. If you are caught cheating
more than once during a semester I will dismiss you from the course with an
F and report you to the academic affairs committee for formal reprimand.
Laboratory practicals will be given during the first 30 minutes of lab on
scheduled days and will usually consist of 25 fill-in-the-blank questions.
If you come in late without an official excuse (doctors appointment with a
note, emergency with a note, or a similar reason) you will not be allowed
to take the practical and will receive a zero. If you have a legitimate excuse
you can take a make-up practical but you must provide the excuse AND take
the makeup practical within ONE WEEK of the absence. If you fail to do this
you will receive a zero for that practical. There are no exceptions. There
will be no makeup possible for the final practical (Practical 5) of the semester.
