AP Calculus AB Institute (Online this year)
June 22-26 and June 29-July 2, 2020 with pre-institute preparation on June 8-10

Welcome to the 2020 AP Calculus Summer Institute at Francis Marion University. Dr. Buck Allen taught this institute for many decades with Mrs. Dorothy Fleck from Wilson High School and Mrs. Vicki Carter from West Florence High School. With Mrs. Carter's direction, Dr. Thomas Fitzkee has continued the tradition. This year we are offering Calculus AB.

This course with MINIMAL COST TO SOUTH CAROLINA PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS provides graduate course credit. This institute targets mathematics teachers in public high schools in South Carolina who are currently teaching AP Calculus AB without AP endorsement, who will be teaching AP Calculus AB, and who are teaching "lead-in" courses to AP Calculus AB, such as Precalculus and Algebra III.

Dr. Thomas Fitzkee is Chair and Professor of Mathematics at Francis Marion University. He has twelve years of experience as an AP Calculus Reader and seven years directing AP Calculus Teacher Institutes. He has taught lead in courses (algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus), single-variable calculus, which includes topics in AP Calculus AB and BC, and multi-variable calculus.

Mrs. Vicki Carter has taught AP Calculus at West Florence High School since 1987. She has just been named THE Assistant to the Chief Reader for AP Calculus, which is the highest position a high school teacher can hold. She has taught AP Calculus for over twenty years and has served as the master teacher in seven previous AP Calculus AB Institutes. Through her previous work with College Board, she served as an AP Calculus Table Leader in 2008-2011, an AP Calculus Question Team Member in 2010-2011, a member of the AP Calculus Curriculum and Exam Review Commission in 2011, the AP Calculus Question Leader in 2012-2014, a member since 2010 and Co-Chairman in 2014-14 of the AP Calculus Development Committee, and AP Calculus Exam Leader in 2017, and member of the AP Calculus Instructional Development Team 2017-2018.

Mrs. Carter also has extensive knowledge of the Texas Instruments-Nspire handheld (calculator) which has revolutionized the AP Calculus Exam. She has led TI professional development seminars throughout the country as detailed in her curriculum vitae.
