In former times,
people relied upon a priesthood to tell them
when months and years began. Later, a system was devised whereby anyone could create
a Calendar, with rules such as Thirty days hath September and Every year divisible by 4
but not by 100, unless divisible by 400.
With the Ecliptic Calendar,
it is beyond the capacity of most of the general public to
construct a calendar from scratch,
because the definitions are all taken from celestial mechanics rather than from counting systems.
But Ecliptic Calendars also are not given by priests.
Instead, they are computed and given to the public by experts.
The Technical Definitions given below
are intended for just such experts.
By means of these definitions, experts anywhere in the world can create Ecliptic Calendars
and dispense them to the general public for use.
